It's Tuesday afternoon and I'm trying to write a quick update so that everyone knows what's going on here.
Temple Tour: Yesterday at 8 a.m. our group went into dowtown Bangkok (2 hr. bus ride/water taxi :D so cool!) with our translator (Nam) to see the Buddhist temples in Bangkok. It was incredible and heart breaking all in the same few hours. After I looked in the first temple I felt like throwing up. I watched as old men, women, and small children layed on the floor in front of a golden idol. A golden idol that was huge and beautifully made and yet how no meaning to it. I watched as people put coins in small dishes along the walls of the temples to earn merit wtih the 'god.' Shivers went down my spine and I just wanted to leave by the end of the first temple (I don't remember the name) but then we went to the 2nd temple which is called The Golden Mountain. We climbed to the top of this HUGE temple and a could see for miles the city of Bangkok. At first I was in awe of the beautiful view of temples everywhere but then Eilidh pointed across the street from one of the temples and there were the slums. My heart literally skipped a beat when I saw them. I thought one was a dump... and it was and then I saw children's clothes hanging up to dry and bikes parked and knew that people lived there. I couldn't and still cannot believe it. We don't go to the slums until Friday but pray that God will continue to break my heart for these people. He already has but oh my goodness there is so much that needs to be done and so much awareness that needs to be raised about how these people are living. Here is a pure golden temple dedicated to worshipping an idol and across the street is a family living on a dollar a day and I just can't believe it. They throw there money into these temples thinking that they're going to earn favor and "get lucky" and all this but it ends in nothing but poverty and distruction.
MST: Ok so last night we had our first night of ministry from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. We worked with the MST project (which stands for Men and the Sex Trade) as I said before. What we did is we took an hr. drive to downtown Bangok and went on a prayer walk in the red light district. Tonight and the next four nights we go back and are doing more ministry. I'm still processing what I saw but please pray for strength and courage and I go into these districts. I've never been in bar before let alone a strip club. God is on the move though and one of our team lead a man to the Lord has night. PRAISE GOD! I have no go and I'll try and write more later but yah please keep our team's safety and courage in your prayers. God is on the move. God bless you all!!!
Wow! Amazing what you are doing. Can't wait to hear how your next adventure went. Praying hard for you and your fellow workers for Christ. Keep up the good work, miss Shanna! Love you!
